2006 BCG Main Field Day writeup
Over 200 people attended our “Work with It” Field Day at Rupanyup on Friday 20 October 2006.
The 'Oaten hay agronomy and marketing' tour was very topical given that many farmers have been trying to decide whether to cut crops for hay or to leave them to harvest grain. Mick Faulkner and Nick Smythe provided expert information on not only cutting oaten hay for export markets, but for domestic markets as well.

The day was full of action, getting up close and personal with some Wimmera clay in the soil pit with Mark Imhoff (DPI), GPS and silo bag demonstrations as well as hands on condition scoring of ewes during the 'Managing sheep in dry times' discussion session with Dr John Milton.

Matt McCallum, AgConsulting, discusses inter-row sowing of lentils. |
At lunchtime people had the opportunity to catch up with Wimmera Mallee Grampians Water and Education Officer, Marie Thorpe who works for the Get into Genes program supported by the Molecular Plant Breeding CRC.
Overall it was a fantastic opportunity for information exchange and catching up with people.
You can view more photos from the day on our Action Snaps page.
