2006 BCG Mallee Research & Demonstration Field DayOur Mallee Research and Demonstration Field Day was held on Thursday 24th August at Hopetoun. The day was opened by the chairman of the BCG board, Mr Ian McClelland, and featured several leading researchers and advisors who assisted in the presentation of trial information.
Topics covered throughout the course of the afternoon included climate and risk management, wheat and barley varieties, crop nutrition, stripe and stem rust, root disease, row spacing, oaten hay agronomy and marketing, and pasture production.
David Moody, the recently appointed Research Manager with BCG, was on hand to share his wealth of information on barley breeding and varieties, and Harm van Rees presented an update on the seasonal conditions of the region for his final time before departing to Papua New Guinea.
BCG would like to thank the host of this year’s Mallee Research Site, Warakirri properties, managed by Peter Funcke. Peter has provided fantastic cooperation and support during the year and his contribution is highly valued. Also, the scientific and technical input provided by key partners at the Hopetoun site including the Department of Primary Industries, Incitec Pivot, Crop Facts, and John Stuchbery and Associates was essential to the success and standard of the trials and is greatly appreciated.
BCG’s Hopetoun site is open for touring at any time. Maps and details of each of the trials including sowing dates and treatments are available at the site, so to update yourself on the progress of any of the trials simply visit the site and take yourself on a self-guided tour!
