BCG project - Diversity in a Piped SystemThis project is supported by RIRDC and forms part of our innovative Making Conservation Pay project.
The Diversity in a Piped System project aims to utilise a unique window of opportunity in the development of the Wimmera-Mallee pipeline to monitor and evaluate four different water access design structures for native fauna to identify which design achieves the best environmental outcome, from a biodiversity perspective.
A secondary aim is to communicate this knowledge in a user-friendly form to the community of the Wimmera-Mallee.

The final report from the Diversity in a Piped System project, 'Bio-diversity in a Piped Rural Water System', is available on the RIRDC website here. Printed copies are available from RIRDC on 02 6272 4218. A summary of the full report is also available on the RIRDC website here.
Read a media release from Ms Sussan Ley MP and Mr John Forrest MP regarding the launch of the final report on 6 March 2007.

A key finding of the research is that the biodiversity value on a farm can be improved by installing a wildlife pond.
We have produced a "Farmers' guide to installing a wildlife pond" that contains all the details you'll need to efficiently and cost-effectively enhance wildlife values in the Wimmera and Mallee within a piped water delivery system.
Download the 4-page Farmers' guide to installing a wildlife pond. |
