About Us

Mission: "Improving the prosperity of farmers and agricultural communities through farmer driven innovation."

BCG (Birchip Cropping Group) is a not-for-profit agricultural research organisation led by farmers in the Wimmera Mallee region of Victoria. BCG strives to improve the prosperity of rural and farming communities, to bolster broader community vitality and provide practical solutions to farm production and business constraints.

BCG conducts rural and agricultural research and extension activities in the Wimmera and Mallee and disseminates results across Australia. The information, support and tools have enabled informed decision making and a rapid adoption of new technologies and farming practices in the community, earning BCG respect from farmers, researchers and industry representatives as a highly credible and independent organisation.

BCG formed in 1992 after a group of local farmers identified a need for crop variety research and herbicide demonstrations in the immediate Birchip region. BCG’s growth was rapid and their research now extends across the wider Wimmera Mallee region and encompasses all of the elements that contribute to the prosperity of rural and farming communities.
