2003Tom Lord is employed as Science Research Officer and Larissa Fawcett as Extension Officer. Ben Malone, Carl Krelle and Kellie Matthews are appointed as Field Officers and Josh Chenoweth as Administration Officer. Bob Belford is our Consulting Scientist and Kate McCormick provides technical support.
During the last two years, our staff has doubled to eleven full-time and two part-time staff. We have three regular consultants.
Our main site is on the Botheras's property on the Birchip-Wycheproof Road and the theme is 'Delivering the goods'.
BCG experiences its most rewarding year since its inception. Every field day is successful in terms of the numbers of participants, the quality and layout of the trials, the effectiveness of the speakers and the wealth of information available.
BCGis successful in winning a tender from APSRU to commercially deliver APSIM to grain producers across Australia. Yield Prophet® is the delivery mechanism to growers. Click here to find out more about Yield Prophet®.
Under the EMS national pilot program, BCG becomes a pilot group in a three-year project titled 'Linking on-farm EMS with catchment targets, a farmer-catchment-government partnership in Victoria'.
A three-year project 'Improved techniques for managing herbicide resistance' supported by GRDC, also begins and looks at improved techniques for managing herbicide resistant ryegrass in co-operation with Hart (SA).
BCG collaborates with DPI in two five-year projects funded by GRDC. The first, 'Improving the profitability of cropping on hostile soils', investigates improving the profitability of cropping on hostile subsoils (ranked second to rainfall variability as the cause of poor and variable yields across the neutral to alkaline soils of southern Australia).
The second project works to bridge the gap between the potential use of Precision Agriculture (PA) technology and its actual application on farm.
BCG receives funding from RIRDC and GRDC to establish the online application 'Virtual Field Day', which will allow growers to follow the progress of research trials throughout the year.
