Northern Field Day success

We held another successful Northern Field Day on 9 September 2004 at our northern research and demonstration site at Hopetoun.

The trials at this site focus on reduced tillage and direct-drilling and 165 people came to listen to our speakers and see the results of our trials there so far.

Our afternoon Field Day followed the GRDC Grains Research Updates in Hopetoun that morning.

BCG trials at the site include a comparison of direct-drill machinery and Group D herbicide use, a comparison of wheat varieties in burnt and unburnt stubble, yellow leaf spot and fungicides and a brome grass trial.

There was a large amount of machinery on-site and guest speaker Rohan Rainbow gave a fantastic insight into machinery setup and management issues.

Rohan RainbowOther speakers included Harm van Rees, Cherie Bell, Peter Ridge (technical director of DIRT management) and Peter Funcke (manager of Bullarto Downs).  Also present to add comment was a representative of the Victorian No Till Farmers Association (VNTFA).
