Women's Agronomy Group hosts a successful "Chicks in Crop" Field Day
Over fifty women attended the Women’s Agronomy Group 2008 Field Day, “Chicks in the Crop” on Wednesday 22 October. The day featured agronomic information as well as highlighting some of the amazing achievements of women in our region.

‘Chicks in the Crop’ kicked off with a bus trip to a local paddock where Brooke White (Cropfacts) and Fiona Best (BCG) discussed and then demonstrated the decision process around cutting grain crops for hay. Following this in-paddock inspection, the group adjourned to the Leisure Centre where Georgina Whiting from Co-operative Bulk Handling discussed grain marketing options and gave tips about how to make harvest less stressful. |
At the completion of the discussion session, four handsome waiters distributed scrumptious canapés and champagne to everyone while the Donald Sheoak Dancers warmed up for their performance. The dancers shimmied and shook their way through two dances before encouraging a good proportion of the crowd to join them onstage. The air was filled with laughter and noise from the tiny bells on the scarves as everyone demonstrated their abilities to shake their hips.

Yvonne Jennings, President of Swan Hill Business and Professional Women and 2006 RIRDC Award winner was the first inspirational and motivational guest speaker. Her entertaining presentation about “Conniptions and Curves” highlighted the importance of women supporting each other in tough times and how a conniption every now and then can achieve wonders.

Deb Bain, instigator of Farm Day and 2007 RIRDC National Award winner was the second guest speaker. Deb’s address about “Careful what you wish for” was interesting and highlighted the importance of taking things from the "one day basket" and putting them into the "today basket". A delicious dinner was served and the night was topped off with some brave guests demonstrating their karaoke ability. |
