Yellow Leaf Spot, Stripe Rust (pictured left), Stem Rust, Spot Form Net Blotch and other foliar crop diseases are something that farmers need to be prepared for if the season remains favourable. Root-born diseases should not be forgotten about either; Rhizontonia, Pratylenchus neglectus and Blackleg in canola and other root diseases are not always easily identified, yet can have a huge impact upon crop production.

The BCG Grains Research Expo 'Decisions into Dollars' increasing profitability by $10/ha, will be the perfect event for farmers to get themselves up to speed on disease identification, lifecycles and crop disease protection strategies.

BCG is encouraging farmers to bring in any suspicious looking plants that may be suffering from disease to the BCG Grains Research Expo to be correctly identified. The Crop Pathology team from Horsham includes Dr Grant Hollaway and Dr Kurt Lindbeck who will be on-site to discuss disease one-on-one with farmers. Dr John Heap, an experienced crop pathologist with SARDI in SA, will also be available to catch up with farmers and talk through disease.

Ensuring farmers are ready with a fungicide strategy for this season will be one of the key ways BCG will help farmers save/make $10/ha in 2007.

Wendy Bedggood with the DPI Crop Pathology team Horsham will also be armed with the latest information on a range of different crop diseases for farmers to take away with them.
