Women eager to learn about climate and sustainability
The ‘Climate Roadshow’ is the latest project focused on climate communication to be undertaken by BCG, supported by funding from the Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry under its Australia’s Farming Future program. The project involves a series of climate forums in regional towns in the Mallee and Wimmera region.
The second forum, ‘making changes at home’, will be held at Danny’s Rusty Nail in Warracknabeal on Thursday 17 September between 10am – 2pm.
Guest speakers include:
- La Vergne Lehmann who hosts a regular segment on local ABC radio focused on sustainability in the home,
- Cathy McNab the Regional Education Officer with Grampians Regional Waste Management Group and
- Ted Brown the manager of Wimmera Native Nursery and host of G.W.M Water’s Sunday gardening program on 3WM local radio.
The forum will focus on how to make your home energy efficient, recycling, composting and the benefits of a low water garden. La Vergne will also demonstrate on how to use items out of the kitchen pantry to make natural skincare products.
The target is women from across the grains and mixed farming sectors - farmers, mothers, consultants, agency, not for profit, and industry. The forums are structured to be informative but also relaxed, encouraging questions and discussion. The forums are free of charge and childcare is available on request.
The first forum, ‘understanding climate variability and trends’ delivered by the Bureau of Meteorology, was held in Donald at Banyena café. It was described by one participant as ‘A great day, a great opportunity to mix with a diverse group of women in a lovely setting’.
Bring your friends for what is sure to be a great day!
Further forums will be held on Tuesday 6 October in Woomelang on ‘Managing risk’ and Wednesday 28 October in Birchip on ‘Farm Viability’.
