Key’s to successful containment
60 farmers attended the BCG sheep day held at the Birchip Community Leisure Centre on Thursday 12 March. Supported by the Low Rainfall Collaboration Group and the Making More from Sheep initiatives the day focused on the establishment and successful use of containment areas for livestock production.

Guest presenter San Jolly from Productive Nutrition talked about a whole range of issues including site selection, shade requirements, feeding and water infrastructure, nutritional requirements and ration calculations as well as costs associated with various containment set ups.
Many questions and discussion was had throughout the day with the opportunity to debate various issues surrounding feeding, joining and lambing in containment. Local livestock producer Eddie Lee said “the day was a great chance for farmers to increase knowledge and enhance skills in livestock production”. Many participants commented that “it was good to see BCG activities supporting both livestock and cropping production enterprises”.
