BCG finalist in Hugh McKay Future Farming Award

BCG was one of two finalists in the Hugh McKay Future Farming Award for primary producers or rural residents, presented at the Melbourne Museum on 16th October 2007.

The Award, part of the DPI Science Awards, seeks to give due recognition to the ingenuity of Victorians. It is presented to a Victorian primary producer, rural resident and/or team, that has developed an innovative solution to an environmental, social and/or economic problem affecting Victoria’s primary industries.

BCG was nominated for the editorial series ‘Over the Fence’ which connected drought affected farmers and their families with each other to share ideas, thoughts and feelings on a range of agronomic and human interest subjects. The 'Over the Fence' editorial series involved 105 farming families and ran for two years with support from sixteen regional newspapers and The Weekly Times.

The DPI Science Awards, presented each year since 1992, celebrate and acknowledge excellence in science and innovation, both from within Victoria's regional communities and our universities, as well as from amongst DPI's own 1,500 scientists and technicians.

The winners of the fifteenth annual Science Awards were presented by Minister for Agriculture, Joe Helper, and the Governor, Professor David de Kretser, at an awards ceremony on 16 October, hosted by ABC journalist Graham Phillips from the television program Catalyst.
