BCG Women’s Agronomy Group tackles hay, locusts and bugs!
Hay verses grain, nitrogen strategies, farm bio-security and locusts will all be discussed at the upcoming BCG Women’s Agronomy Group meeting on Wednesday 11 August at BCG.
The spread of weeds and disease from farm to farm is an important issue as farmers strive to manage the impact these have. Jim Moran, DPI is an entertaining speaker who tackles the issue of bio-security with humour, wit and thorough good sense.
Following Jim’s presentation, De-Anne Price from DPI will bring us up to speed with the locust situation, how the government’s response will roll out and what you, as a farmer can do to help minimise the impact locusts may have come springtime.
Tim McClelland, BCG Yield Prophet co-ordinator is also speaking. His presentation will concentrate on two topics: the decision to cut for hay as opposed to yielding grain from your crops and how to determine the need for nitrogen application. Tim will explain some tools and strategies that can support your on-farm decision making.
‘Women’s Agronomy Group is a terrific BCG initiative’ said Margaret O’Keefe, Corporate Relations and Events Manager. ‘Our meetings are always good fun, we have a delicious lunch and work hard to create a supportive learning environment. Women involved in farming are often looking for some extra support, for some more detailed information; through these meetings we are able to provide that.’
The August Women’s Agronomy Group meeting is at the BCG conference room on Wednesday 11 August commencing at 10.00am; the meeting finishes at 2.00pm. Meetings are open to all ladies involved in farming in our region, irrespective of their membership with BCG. Cost for attending is $10 which includes lunch.
