2020 Vision Industry Tour (24 Aug - 29 Aug)ATTENTION EVERYONE UNDER THE AGE OF 35 INVOLVED IN AGRICULTURE!!! Industry Tour (24th – 29th August)
In 1998, BCG formed a group called 2020 Vision. It was designed to bring together young people living and working in the agricultural industry who shared similar interests and concerns about their future. The 2020 Vision group aims to encourage and motivate participants to stay passionate about agriculture and work together to build their local communities.
BCG’s 2020 Vision initiative conducted a very successful comedy debate at the end of March – “That farming is better than sex.” Everyone that attended had a great night and the speakers did a fantastic job of presenting their very clever arguments. However, now it is that time of the year again for a trip and this year BCG has received funding from GRDC to host an Industry Tour to South Australia. This tour will take place from Sunday 24th August to Friday 29th August and places are strictly limited. BCG will charter a plane from Birchip on Sunday afternoon to arrive in Adelaide on Sunday evening to stay the night. On Monday, we will visit the Waite Institute, the Plant Functional Genomics Centre, AGT seeds and Coopers Brewery. On Monday night we will fly to Port Lincoln to stay the night so that early on Tuesday morning, we will go deep sea fishing and take a tour of the local fishing industry and on Tuesday night dine in Port Lincoln which is known as the seafood capital of Australia. On Wednesday morning we will fly to Kimba where we will visit the Buckleboo Farm Improvement Group (FIG) and visit some local farms and stay the night at the Kimba Community owned Hotel. On Thursday morning we will fly to Minnipa to visit the Minnipa Agricultural Research Station and have dinner with the EPARF members. On Friday morning we will fly back to Birchip via Whyalla.
However as places are limited to 8 on this plane, BCG has decided that in the interest of giving everyone a fair chance, interested participants need to apply to go on the trip. The application process is simply – all you need to do is email, call or write to BCG and tell us in 25 words or less “Why do you think study trips like this are important for young people involved in agriculture?”. Applications close on the 7th of July (just after expo) and successfull applicants will be announced shortly afterwards. For more information about the trip please call BCG on 03 54922 787 or email. While the trip is supported by GRDC, participants will be required to make some financial contribution.
Please email this on to anyone that you may think will be interested in applying.
