BCG HARTStrings tour places filling fast

Views

BCG has places available for its HARTStrings tour, a bus trip to the HART Field Day in South Australia from the 19th – 21st of September.

Aptly named, the HARTStrings Tour will take BCG back to where, 30 years ago, the idea for the HART Field Day inspired a group of enthusiastic farmers to start their own research, and the Birchip Cropping Group was born.

The tour will begin on Monday the 19th of September with farmers and BCG staff departing Birchip and staying in Clare the evening before the field day. On day two, participants will attend the HART Field Day and then return to Birchip on Wednesday.

Continuous improvement through exposure

BCG CEO Fiona Best is delighted to offer farmers from across the region the opportunity: “Continuous improvement in farming and farming practice is only achieved through the exposure to new ways of doing things, new technology and new ideas. BCG’s HARTStrings Tour will provide farmers the opportunity to get out of their own patch and see applied research occurring in another region.”

Building connections

Another key focus of the tour will be building meaningful relationships with interstate researchers who farmers can connect with.

“Participating farmers will develop relationships while increasing their knowledge in topics such as genetics, herbicide and weed management practices, nutrition and disease management as well as insect and pest management. As a farmer driven research organisation, BCG is always looking for ways we can do things better. By travelling out of our region, we also hope to learn novel ways of extending our information.

“While it’s 30 years on, we know it’s going to be another trip to remember,” Ms Best said. “This is a busy time of year for everyone so the two-nights away is hoped to be achievable for anyone interested in attending.”

The BCG HARTStrings Tour is being subsidised by a GRDC Travel Grants. Each participant is asked to contribute $250p/hd which covers all expenses for the three days away.  For more information or to book your place call (03) 5492 2787 or email info@bcg.org.au
