We welcome Kirstine Pool to the BCG team as a harvest casual. We caught up with Kristine who hails from Denmark to learn about what brought her to BCG.

What is your background?

I’m Danish and I am 27 years old. I live in a nice house in a little town in Denmark called Kibæk, with my boyfriend Kasper. I studied at university and am now a qualified early childhood educator, and back home I work in a daycare, which I love!

What is your role at BCG and what will you be doing?

My role at BCG is a casual worker in the lab under the guidance of Steve’o, the lab manager. Over the harvest period, I will be responsible for various jobs including biomass cuts and analysis, soil sampling, grain analysis and threshing of harvest cuts.

How did you learn about BCG and what brought you here?

My boyfriend, Kasper, works as a farmhand for Tim and Julie McClelland. Tim got in touch with Kasper about the job, and got me in contact with Yolanda, BCG’s Senior Research Officer, about working at BCG. It is a perfect fit for us as a couple, as it is during the harvest period which allows us to both work until the harvest season is over and we can continue travelling.

What are you looking forward to most working at BCG?

I am looking forward to meeting new people. I think it’s nice to learn about the Australian culture through work.

What do you hope to do with what you have learnt when you return home?

I am looking forward to telling my Grandad, who used to be a farmer; the old-fashioned way, that I know what canola, wheat, barley and the other crop types look like!

What are your interests outside of work?

Back in Denmark, my interests include spending time with my family and friends. I love doing nice things with the people who I love. Here in Australia, I mostly spend time with Kasper in the header. Because of my background in daycare and love of children, I also enjoy spending a lot of time with Tim and Julie’s two girls, who are 8 and 10 years old.
