2017 results released in the BCG Season Research Results compendium

The season at BCG is not complete until its members receive their copy of the 2017 BCG Season Research Results compendium, which includes trial results and technical information from more than 30 trials.

BCG managed 25 research sites throughout the Wimmera and Mallee in 2017, with results from a selection of these analysed, written up and presented to members at the BCG Trials Review Day on Friday 16 February.

BCG commercial services manager Cameron Taylor explained that lots of hard work goes into putting together the results, but the effort is worth it when members show their appreciation.

“Before the header stops moving the team very quickly move into analysing data, making sure that BCG members get access to their information as soon as possible,” Mr Taylor said.

“When talking to members at Trials Review Day, it makes the entire process worth it as you see how much members are grateful for the effort we put in.”

BCG employee (maternity leave) De-Anne Ferrier said the BCG research and extension staff, and the invited external presenters appreciate the opportunity to present directly to a grower audience.

“It is great to have the opportunity to present all the hard work to a grower audience in a way that it can be useful on-farm, and for the season ahead.”

Jil Jil grower Tim McClelland said that the BCG Trials Review Day and Season Research Results compendium assist with getting a greater understanding of the information presented on the day.

“The manual is a great reference, especially after Trials Review Day when you want to remember something you heard,” Mr McClelland explained.

“It also helps solve arguments, as the information contained in the manual is evidence based.”

The day is not only an opportunity for growers to meet industry experts like Steve Henry and Jaclyn Brown (CSIRO), James Hunt (La Trobe University), Chris Williams (National Residue Survey) and Jason Brand (Southern Pulse Agronomy/Agriculture Victoria), but also catchup with friends near and far and compare stories and strategies on how to tackle complex challenges.

The BCG Trials Review Day is a member’s only event and will be held on Friday 16 February. Lunch, refreshments and a copy of the 2017 BCG Season Research compendium are provided. Non-BCG members can purchase memberships prior to, or on the day.
