Kooloonong season & soil discussion

Join us at Kooloonong for a season and soil discussion as part of our four-year paddock-scale stubble management project.

When: Thursday 26 June, 9:00am – 12:00pm

Where: Larkin Rd, 4km south of Kooloonong

The discussion will cover:

  • The season so far
  • Overview of local paddock constraints and management strategies implemented to increase production
  • Mallee seeps, and incorporating sands and clays in-paddock
  • Soil analysis
  • Local trials including:
    • Sandy soils with Michael Moodie, Frontier Farming Systems
    • Hyperyielding cereals with Kenton Porker, CSIRO
    • Varieties and time of sowing with Nutrien Manangatang/Ouyen
  • Other local projects such as Water Repellent Sands with Zoe Wilson, BCG

We will be joined by local agronomist Michael Moodie (Frontier Farming Systems), senior soil scientist Mel Cann (Agriculture Victoria) and farming systems research agronomist Kenton Porker (CSIRO). Tea/coffee and a barbecue lunch will be provided.

This event is run as part of the MCMA DAFF funded soil project – Sus Ag Climate Smart Agriculture Program which was: Farmers are supported to drive agricultural growth, while adopting sustainable NRM practices that protect soil.
