Bring your Mallee seeps back into production!
A Mallee Seep is an area affected by a localised perched water table that brings water and salt to the surface soil layers that can result in surface ponding and bare saline scalding over time.
If this is a problem on you farm, join us and other local growers for a free workshop to learn more about options for mitigating Mallee seeps with guest presenter Dr Chris McDonough, Farming Systems Consultant, Insight Extension for Agriculture.
Key features of the day:
- Learn how to identify a Mallee seep
- Learn about the five steps to identify and then rehabilitate the problem.
- How to establish living soil cover to limit capillary rise and evaporation, while restoring soil health.
- How to lower or dry up the perched water table by intercepting and utilising the excess water.
- See a piezometer demonstration to identify water levels.
The same workshop will be delivered at two locations on the one day and will include an interactive discussion indoors then an inspection of a seep in a nearby paddock. Attendees to bring their own vehicle for the paddock inspection component.
This project is being delivered by BCG and the Mallee Landcare group.
