Marisa joined the BCG Board in 2025, bringing with her a wealth of experience in grains industry research and agronomy. She hails from a farm in the Victorian Mallee where her love for the agriculture industry began. Marisa has been teaching plant biology and crop science to agriculture students since 1998, developing excellent communication skills through extensive experience in linking crop science to practical farm outcomes. Her research, primarily in legumes, uses her practical field-based skills and “bigger picture” perspective to ensure the research delivers to farmers.
In 2007, Marisa gained a PhD in crop physiology at the University of Melbourne and has gone on to work on farming systems across South Australia, New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria, with a range of broadacre and horticultural crops. Her research, funded by GRDC, AgriFutures and the Department of Agriculture, has focused on improving crop productivity through better water-use efficiency, understanding crop responses to heat and drought, and enhancing nitrogen fixation in legumes. She has worked with The University of Melbourne, CSIRO, The University of Queensland and La Trobe University, and her research has remained field and grower focussed.
