Ben McEvoy, Nick Poole and Muster Dogs at BCG’s Main Field Day

Hawthorn great Ben McEvoy, crop disease expert Nick Poole and Peter Barr from Muster Dogs have been secured to present at  BCG’s Main Field Day on Wednesday the 14th of September at Nullawil (on the corner of the Calder Highway and Burgins Road).

Ben McEvoy, widely respected recently retired Hawthorn Football Club Captain and farmer, will share his plans to incorporate the skills and lessons learnt from his time on and off the field as Hawthorn captain into his farming life.

FAR Australia Managing Director Nick Poole’s will discuss disease management, including resistance, effect and economics. This will be the first session of the day with growers eager to learn more on the topic given the recent wet weather, yield predictions and current climate forecast for spring.

Peter Barr from Muster Dogs will keep the momentum going in the afternoon with a discussion and demonstration on how farmers can get the best out of their working dogs. This session is already drawing much interest as the saying goes: “A good dog on the ground’s worth three in the saddle”.

BCG’s Louisa Ferrier who has been the chief organiser of BCG’s Main Field Day said the organisation was fortunate to have the support of such high calibre speakers: “The BCG Main Field Day is our way of connecting with farmers, to showcase the work we do for them and their surrounding communities. It’s as much an educational event as it is a celebration of our work and what we have achieved  over the past thirty years. Bringing together such a diverse range of quality speakers is a highlight for BCG as an organisation and we hope our attendees enjoy this fantastic opportunity and ask lots of questions!”

GRDC NVT results, pulse agronomy, Septoria management in the low rainfall zone, silicon trials, soil carbon work, BCG’s herbicide matrix and year-round fodder trials are also on the program and will provide an opportunity for farmers to connect with researchers and their work occurring in the region, for the region.

Gates open at 8am with onsite catering available from breakfast through to drinks at the conclusion of the day.

This event is free for BCG members and $50 for non-members. To become a member, visit bcg.org.au For more information on becoming a member or regarding the field day call (03) 5492 2787.
