Yield Calculation:
Estimating yield in-paddock for cereals Grain yield (t/ha) | Example |
Count number of heads/m of crop row x 100 / row spacing cm
(do this at least 5 times to get an average) |
60 heads x 100 / 30.5 = 196 |
Count number of grains/head | 24 (grains/head) |
Number of grains per m2 = number of heads/m2 x grains/head | 196 x 24 = 4704 |
Yield t/ha = number of grains per m2 / 100 x 3.6g (grain weight) / 100 | 4704 / 100 x 3.6 / 100 = 1.69 t/ha |
- Row spacing conversion: 7 inch = 17.8cm, 9 inch = 22.9cm, 12 inch = 30.5cm, 14 inch = 35.6cm, 15 inch = 38.1cm
- 1000 grain weights: (examples from 2016) Hindmarsh 3.2g, Compass 4.2g, Yitpi 4.2g, Scout 4.1g.
