Next Friday is BCG Trials Review Day

BCG will launch the 2018 season research results compendium at Birchip on Friday 15 February at the BCG Trials Review Day which offers the chance to review 2018 and catch up other farmers and industry members in one day.

With research conducted at 27 sites and 11 000 plots in 2018, there’s a lot to talk about and BCG’s engagement and members services leader, Louisa Ferrier, said staff presentations were an important part of the program giving members the opportunity to hear from the people who conduct the research.

“This year, the program includes new speakers and new industry representatives,” Ms Ferrier said.

“Some BCG staff members will present for the first time and we will meet newly appointed GRDC Victorian Grower Relations Manager, Courtney Ramsay.”

While Trials Review Day is an opportunity to hear from younger members of the industry, the day is well represented by experienced researchers too.

Jason Brand from Agriculture Victoria, Harm van Rees, long-time BCG collaborator, and BCG’s research leader, Claire Browne, are also in the program line-up offering a combined, 65 years of agricultural research experience,” Ms Ferrier added.

Topics being covered include optimising plant establishment and precision planters, the seasonal outlook, cereal, canola and pulse variety performance, grazing standing crops for finishing lambs, soil testing on a regional scale and more.

Attendees will have the opportunity to compare notes, reflect on the year and surmise about the year to come with refreshments at the end of formal proceedings.

Ms Ferrier said, “This event is a great opportunity to get off the farm or out of the office to catch up with neighbours and peers, while meeting new colleagues along the way.”
