Growers and agronomists who want to stay ahead of the game, learn more about the sustainable use of herbicides and effective long-term weed control, are invited to attend the 2019 WeedSmart Week event in Horsham later this month.
Starting on Tuesday 27 August, WeedSmart Week will focus on delivering the latest information about the WeedSmart ‘Big 6’, with an interactive forum featuring leading growers, farm advisers, agronomists and researchers, followed by a series of farm visits.
On day two of the program engage in hands-on workshops looking at mechanical harvest weed seed management options and harvester efficiency with three header colours and HWSC tools at the Wimmera Machinery Field Days site. Day three includes farm visits in the Horsham area where growers have put in place integrated weed management programs to minimise the impact of herbicide resistance to their farming systems.
The event is a chance to see first-hand how some growers are tackling problem weeds through strategic management tactics such as crop competition, narrow row spacing, crop rotation and harvest weed seed control measures, as well as to hear about the latest cutting-edge technology with optical sprayers, green on green and robotics.
The all-inclusive cost of this three-day event is $150.
WeedSmart Week is hosted by WeedSmart and supported by the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC). Birchip Cropping Group (BCG) is co-hosting the week.
