2016 main research site confirmed

BCG is excited to announce that Warmur is the location of the 2016 main research site, with the Main Field Day also to be held there in on September 14.

Owned by John and Dan Boyle, the paddock is situated on the Birchip-Warracknabeal road at Warmur which is 18km south west of Birchip.

The paddock was fallowed in 2015 and grew wheat in 2014.

It is clay loam with no sub-soil constraints and soil test results revealed that it is low in phosphorus (P), so it is likely to be responsive provided conditions are conducive.

BCG research manager Claire Browne said she was looking forward to establishing research trials at Warmur this year.

“The idea of moving our main research site each year is to visit new areas and conduct applicable research on new soil types, under different weed pressures and changing rainfall environments,” she said.

“But most importantly, the aim is to support our members and farmers who farm in different regions across the Wimmera and Mallee.”

As always, BCG will also manage a number of satellite sites which this year includes paddocks at Pira and Kalkee, with other sites to be confirmed shortly.
