BCG Trials Team: Sowing Update

The trials program is just over halfway.

At Corack, the main trial site this year, trials sown include;

  • Very early sowing (comparing long season versus shorter season varieties)
  • Variety Mixed Wheat – mixes of Yipti, (mid) and Axe, (early)
  • Grazing Cerals and Forages
  • Canola Varieties
  • Barley Agronomy Time of Sowing (TOS) – 6 varieties by 3 different times of sowing. So far 1st and 2nd TOS have been sown.
  • Rust Management – Yitpi Wheat with varying rates of Intake Hi-load Gold on the MAP as a rust protection. Wheat Varieties – comparing new and older wheat varieties and their suitability for this area The early sown trials (sown on April 8) at Corack are now at 3 leaf stage. Nitrogen was be spread last Friday 20th before the rain. Baiting for mice has occurred several times at Corack and they don’t appear to be doing too much damage to trials. By the end of this week we should have most of the trials at the site finished except for the different time of sowing trials. 5-10mm would be ideal on the site and help the even emergence of all trials.
