Do you remember, back in February at the BCG Trials Review Day, how we agreed that BCG’s mission for 2025 was to help every farmer achieve their best year in farming?
Of course, “best” (no pun intended) will look different for every business.
For BCG, it means a season in which every decision point is supported by the right information at the right time. It means a season in which every farmer feels connected to peers who share similar goals and aspirations. As usual, it means the highest yields possible, strong profits, healthy families with a few personal wins along the way.
Keeping those criteria in in mind, how are you tracking?
Over the past few weeks, I’ve spoken with many farmers across the region. While this season hasn’t been perfect – the dry start certainly tested us – the sense I get is that, as a collective, we’re performing well. The rising cost of production a constant in all discussions.
Next Wednesday, September 10, we have the chance to build on that momentum at the BCG Main Field Day. It’s the biggest event on our yearly calendar and a valuable opportunity for farmers in the region to learn, connect, and challenge their thinking. The forecast might hint at rain, but as one of our members reminded me recently, I don’t know too many farmers who don’t like to see rain, or to talk about farming.
Bring your umbrella, pull on your boots and a warm jacket, and we’ll take care of the rest.
This year’s line-up is outstanding, including
- Options for reduced or no paraquat use: BCG’s Angus Butterfield and Professor Chris Preston (University of Adelaide)
- Cereal variety performance and choosing the best fit for your program
- Disease management strategies for this season and beyond, including new spore-trapping detection technology
- Improving pulse production with Agriculture Victoria and Jason Brand (Frontier Farming Systems)
There will also be sessions on soils, nitrogen and decision making.
The Main Field Day is about more than data. It’s about conversations, debate, and ideas that stick with you long after you leave the paddock.
I invite you to join us. Test your assumptions, validate what you’re seeing on your own farm, and take home insights and tools that can help make this – and every year – your best year in farming yet.
