BCG in Focus – mice movements and myths with CSIRO researcher Steve Henry

CSIRO researcher Steve Henry recently visited the BCG office during his regular monitoring trips which see him cover thousands of kilometres three times each year.

With mice wreaking havoc for Wimmera and Mallee growers this season, BCG in Focus podcast sat down with Mr Henry to get a handle on what mice have been up to, the extent of the problem and what implications this could have heading into next year.

In this podcast, Mr Henry provides tips and considerations for harvest and summer to reduce food availability and therefore reduce risks during sowing.

Plenty of theories and tales the habits of mice have surfaced this year, so we put some of these myths to Mr Henry including caching (storing) of food. Mr Henry shares some of the stories he is hearing from farmers and what may be leading to increases in this behaviour which will have effects for how farmers monitor and bait mice into the future.
