BCG Preliminary Results - Canola Varieties (Wimmera)

Note: Please treat these preliminary results with caution and look for the full report in the 2017 BCG Season Research Results.

  • 43Y92, 44Y90, Diamond and 44Y24 were the highest yielding varieties in this trial.
  • The top CLF, RR and conventional varieties all out yielded the TT varieties by at least 0.47t/ha.
  • Market access for RR varieties is key for profitability. However, RR varieties are consistently high yielding compared to other herbicide technology and have the additional benefits of good weed control and no residual herbicide for next season.
  • Conventional variety Diamond is a fantastic yielder but is restricted by herbicide options, good paddock selection is vital.
  • The top yielding hybrid TT canola (InVigor T 4510) out yielded the top open pollinated (ATR-Bonito) by 0.27t/ha. Taking seed costs into account InVigor T 4510 is around $86.5/ha better off (see 2017 Season Research Results for further explanation).
