Three emerging agricultural leaders returned from the Annual Women in Agriculture (AWiA) Conference feeling excited about the agriculture industry and the role they can play in its future development.

BCG members Miranda Rose, Teghan Pearce, and BCG staff member Angela Mazur, received an all-expenses paid sponsorship to the 2019 conference courtesy of BCG Diamond Partner Rural Bank.

The three joined women from across Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific to participate in activities designed to build their skills, knowledge and resilience in the sector.

This year’s conference, titled ‘Review. Renew. Regenerate.’, had a strong focus on sustainability and regenerative agriculture. Topics presented at the conference included; women leading the way, risks in agriculture and agribusiness, self-care, navigating the highs and lows of agriculture and rural living, and regenerative agriculture.

Miranda Rose, who is in her first year of an Advanced Diploma of Agribusiness Management at Longerenong College, said that she came away from the conference feeling inspired and encouraged about the future of the industry and the role she could play within it.

“There are so many layers to agriculture. You don’t have to have a farm to be involved. From scientists and consultants, through to farm hands and seasonal workers, everyone has a role to play.”

BCG Communications Officer Angela Mazur said that it was wonderful to see a diverse range of women attending the conference.

“I was blown away by how supportive everyone was to each other. It was an amazing opportunity to network and share ideas with like-minded people. It was one of the rare occasions where I could share a joke with a CEO and a gin with an up and coming leader.”

Thanks to the generous support of BCG’s diamond corporate partner Rural Bank, the attendees were able to walk away with new ideas and the confidence to have conversations and find out more about their role in agriculture, as well as a network of like-minded people in the industry.
