BCG is pleased to welcome Greg Martin to the team as Technical Officer.
Where are you from? How long have you been in the area? Previous roles, qualifications, expertise?
I’m originally from Canada but I’ve been living in Birchip for, we’ll just say, a long time! I’m a qualified mechanic which I competed at Lou Martin Engineering in Birchip and I’m an experienced welder. I’ve also worked for GWM water undertaking maintenance so I have a broad range of expertise from which to draw upon in my new role.
What is your role at BCG and what will you be doing?Â
I will be a Technical Officer working with Chris Cook in the workshop and out in the paddock to ensure the trials team can operate smoothly.
What about the role interested you in applying?Â
I’ve always been interested in agriculture and have spent much of my working life in jobs supporting farmers. I see my role at BCG as another way to do this while also continuing to build my skills.
What are your interests outside work?Â
You’ll find me fishing and camping at Edwards River near Kyalite. It’s a great spot but perhaps I shouldn’t say that!
What are you looking forward to whilst working at BCG?Â
I’m looking forward to the diversity of the work. I’ve been in my role now for a couple of months and it certainly hasn’t been boring! Like farming, the nature of the work is unpredictable which keeps it interesting and I like a challenge which I think is why agriculture is a good fit for me!
