  • In collaboration with Agriculture Victoria as lead agency
  • Project aims to improve phosphorus use efficiency (PUE) and return on fertiliser investment in high phosphorus fixing soils across the Southern and Western Regions.
  • BCG is undertaking a suite of experiments on high P fixing soils associated with calcareous (Calcarosol) soils in the Victorian southern Mallee to deliver best-bet phosphorous management strategies for the region.
  • BCG trials will focus on testing P-rate response, residual value, sampling methodologies and comparing the efficacy of fluid (Phosphoric acid) versus granular (MAP) forms of P.
  • BCG will also test the effect of dry sowing and delayed germination on P-availability and the potential contribution of legumes in liberating phosphorus existing within the soil, as regionally relevant research questions.
  • Trials will be a combination of small plot and larger scale demonstration strips run over the life of the project.
  • Overall, the project will generate actionable data to support grower decision making for best phosphorus management on high P fixing soils within the Mallee and Wimmera.
