Young Wimmera and Mallee growers are invited to attend a special “StopGAPP” workshop and networking evening on Friday 1 February 2019 from 3pm at the Birchip Community Leisure Centre.
The event is funded through BCG corporate partner ADM and builds on the successful GAPP (Growth, Adoption, Production and Profit) program which saw seven discussion groups established across the region from Manangatang to the West Wimmera.
Commencing at 3pm, this workshop, followed by a BBQ dinner, will continue the GAPP tradition of sharing information and developing networks amongst young, and young at heart, growers who are in the early to mid-stages of their farming careers.
Designed with input from members, the event will explore themes and tools to adapt the farm business to the current climate from both a business and weather perspective. Topics will focus on strategies to support farmers make informed agronomic and business decisions in unpredictable weather environments, in particular dry seasons, as well as approaches to grain marketing to ensure the business can cover cost of production and endure profitability.
The workshop boasts a panel of well-known industry representatives including financial advisor Noel Meney of Farm360, technical and strategic consultant Kate Burke of ThinkAgri, Tim McClelland, Birchip farmer and Model Agronomics consultant and Chris Warrick, farm business consultant of Primary Business.
ADM Manager Accumulation Victoria Peter Sidley, is thrilled to be supporting young farmers in the region who are seeking information designed to support their decision making and business resilience in a dry climate.
“ADM has a long and positive relationship with BCG and we’ve worked closely with GAPP members throughout the initial phase of the project and saw tremendous value in these young farmer discussion groups,” he said.
The second half of the program will comprise of a social dinner with a special guest speaker from ADM on grain marketing, providing current market insights, advice for marketing at harvest and throughout the year and overseas demand for Australian product.
“This is a brilliant opportunity for young farmers to network, gather integral grain marketing and strategic information on building farm business resilience.”
The original GAPP program was funded by the State Government and concluded in 2017.
This is a free event and BCG is asking for young farmers interested in attending to RSVP by Monday 28 January 2019 for catering purposes. For more information and to register, please phone the BCG office on 03 5492 2787.
