A steady start

The year so far and the growing season rainfall has been slow and steady as we wait for a general, widespread rain to give growers more confidence in the rest of the season.

Recent smaller rainfall events and the forecasts for future events later in the week, will benefit the crops that have been sown and emerging and those finishing their cropping operation.  We  are looking forward to seeing the countryside transform with ongoing rain events.

On our property sowing has concluded. Management operations include checking germination and mouse populations, potential weed burdens in the crops and feeding ewes and lambs in stock containment areas.

Another important management tool is taxation planning as the end of the financial year approaches.

I’m pleased to announce the return of The Chair’s Breakfast event in 2021 with Dr Michiel van Lookeren, Director of Agriculture and Food, as our keynote speaker.

Accompanied by a delicious breakfast prepared by board member Stefano de Pieri, the morning promises to be both informative and nourishing.

I hope to see you at the Birchip Community Leisure Centre Thursday 12 August.
