As we settle into the growing season, it’s fair to say the start has been mixed. While some areas have had enough rainfall to push ahead confidently, others are still waiting for a decent break. The variability is a reminder of how unpredictable this game can be, and how some aspects of farming still lie beyond our control.Â
Regardless of where you sit on that spectrum, I want to acknowledge the effort that’s already gone in – from controlling weeds and sowing crops to making the hard calls about how to move forward in less-than-ideal conditions. These moments can sometimes weigh heavily, especially when the outcomes don’t match the effort.Â
At an organisational level, our work continues to focus on delivering value where it’s needed most. Whether that’s helping make sense of seasonal outlooks, offering decision-support tools, or simply creating spaces for conversation, collaboration and problem solving, BCG are here to support you through both the good and uncertain times.Â
One insight I’d like to leave with you is this: adaptability isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about being willing to ask better questions. In farming, in leadership, in life, we’re rarely dealing with certainties. What we do have is experience, networks, data, and most importantly, each other. Let’s continue to challenge assumptions, test new approaches, and stay open to different perspectives.Â
A key opportunity coming up is the BCG Ag Tech Expo on 16 July, which brings together farmers, researchers, and innovators to showcase practical technologies that can improve decision-making, reduce risk, and drive efficiency on-farm. Events like this aren’t just about shiny new tools, they’re about giving farmers confidence to adapt, ask questions, and consider new ways of tackling persistent challenges. In a season like this, where flexibility is vital, that kind of thinking is invaluable. I encourage you to register your attendance at bcg.org.au/events/.Â
Thanks, as always, for your ongoing trust and support. Wishing you strength and clarity as the season unfolds.Â
Warm regards,
John Ferrier
