GAPP gets going for 2017

The Growth, Adoption, Productivity and Profit (GAPP) program, now in its third year, will present the first round of meetings for 2017 in the next couple weeks.

The pilot project, run by BCG in partnership with the State Government, is still continuing to meet its objective which is to increase on-farm production in ways that maintain or increase profitability for farmers in the grains sector.

At next month’s meetings, areas of interest or issues identified by growers in the groups will be targeted.

Each meeting will include discussions about the impacts of 2016 on this season in terms of disease carryover, high stubble loads and herbicide efficacy, nitrogen management, mice/pests and other relevant points of interest.

Another focus will be on grain marketing and what strategies growers can put in place going forward with low grain prices and high volumes of grain stored on-farm.

Each group will also continue to have a Yield Prophet focus paddock in 2017. A review on the 2016 Yield Prophet results will be undertaken to compare actual versus predicted yield performance and how the paddock performed in comparison to the region.

The next round of meetings will take place as follows:

  • Southern Mallee and Women’s GAPP groups (combined meeting) – 9.00am on March 14 at BCG office
  • Quambatook GAPP group – 8.30am on March 15 at Quambatook football/golf Club
  • Hopetoun GAPP group – 8.30am on March 16 at Gateway Beet Hopetoun
