Farmers from across the Wimmera, Mallee and beyond will head to Birchip this Wednesday for a glimpse into the future.
The BCG Future Farmers Expo will showcase agricultural innovations, new research, farming technology and business management strategies specifically aimed at improving the profitability and sustainability of the region’s broadacre farms.
The event, which runs from 11am to 5.15pm, features six presentations delivered by highly regarded industry farmers and experts who will discuss: climate and the seasonal outlook, Russian Wheat Aphid management, working with a farm board, precision agriculture, expanding the farm and off-farm investments, and enterprise diversification.
Farmers will also have the chance to talk to representatives from 18 of Australia’s best known agribusinesses who will be on hand to share their expertise.
An exciting inclusion to this year’s program is the release of BCG’s new website and app. Demonstrations on how to use BCG’s newest electronic tools, including the new Yield Prophet® Lite app, will be conducted throughout the day.
The BCG Future Farmers Expo is fully catered with lunch provided by Birchip P-12 School and hot drinks supplied by local caterers.
The day will conclude with complimentary drinks and nibbles provided by Sow Good Seed Grading – an interlude before the evening’s festivities.
After the Expo a sumptuous three-course tapas-style dinner will then be presented by the Birchip P-12 School, with proceeds to go towards a project to build a school for underprivileged children in Cambodia.
The Expo dinner is also being supported by Furphy beer, which is brewed solely from Victorian-sourced barley.
During the evening craft beer ambassador Matt Burns will give a short presentation about the history of Furphy beer, including the brewing process and the attributes of malt barley sourced for Furphy.
The BCG Future Farmers Expo will be held at Birchip P-12 School on Wednesday, July 6. Entry is free for BCG members and students, and $50 for non-members. Tickets for the BCG Expo dinner are $50 per head. Reserve your place by purchasing a ticket online or by phoning (03) 5492 2787.
