If you’re a mixed farmer from the Wimmera or Mallee, don’t miss the FREE ‘Mixed Farming Forum’ at the Wallup Hall on Thursday 8 August.

The program features topics including:

  • grazing crops and stubbles
  • feed management to optimise sheep production
  • integrating ag tech into a sheep enterprise
  • making good decisions to pull it all together.

“We’re excited to bring so many experienced farmers and industry experts together in the same room, on the same day to share their knowledge” says BCG Livestock Systems Officer and event organiser, Alison Frischke.

Cam Nicholson, Nicon Rural Services and farmer will be there to discuss decision making and whole farm risk management.

“Appreciating the opportunities, trade-offs and synergies from mixed farming, along with how this changes the risk within the businesses, adds a layer of complexity that’s not faced when running a single enterprise” Mr Nicholson said.

Dr Steve Cotton, respected advisor from Dynamic Ag, will discuss managing feed in cropping systems to meet your sheep flock nutritional needs. Steve will share the do’s and don’ts of optimal sheep production and highlight the key considerations throughout a production year from stubbles and containment, to grazing crops and spring feed management.

Scott Nicholson is a passionate grower and Nuffield scholar from Campbells Bridge who has been studying technology within the sheep and wool industry. He will share the experiences he had visiting some of the best businesses in the world and where the integration of technology and eID (electronic identification) can enhance your business.

Well known advisor, John Stuchbery from AGRIvision, and local hay contractors and marketers, Green & Gold Contracting, will round out the program with a discussion about agronomy and production for quality hay.

The Mixed Farming Forum will be held at the Wallup Hall, 636 Wallup Hall Rd, from 8.45am to 1.30pm on 8 August. It is a free event, with morning tea and lunch provided. Everyone is welcome.
