Acknowledging the farmers behind BCG’s work

Over the past 30 years, BCG’s research footprint has become far-reaching. From the northern Mallee to the west and southern Wimmera, and across into the North Central region, BCG’s work now extends well beyond the local surrounds of Birchip, our historical hub.

While our main office remains proudly in Birchip – the centre of everywhere – the BCG community has grown significantly.

Delivering research and extension across such a broad region is only possible because of the generosity and support of farmers. Each year, farmers host trials, allow paddock access for monitoring activities, share local knowledge, support crop walks and provide the practical insight that keeps our work grounded and relevant.

I want to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank the many farmers and their families who support BCG’s work. The collective willingness to contribute ensures research is being undertaken under local conditions, with outcomes that help improve farm businesses across the region.

This support is never taken for granted. It strengthens BCG, keeps us motivated, and reminds us why locally led, farmer-focused research and extension matters.

In 2026, the BCG team is working with over 95 individual farmers who are either hosting research sites, have paddocks being monitored or are actively participating in various projects. The lists below represent individuals; however, the BCG team acknowledge that working alongside these names are other family members and farm colleagues who are also a key part of the story.

I would also like to acknowledge our three BCG regional farmer and advisory committee members, who regularly provide feedback and ideas through meetings and WhatsApp groups. Again, this feedback is critical to the magic and success of BCG.
