The 2020 grain growing season is about to kick off with Wimmera and Mallee growers reviewing the 2019 season at the upcoming BCG Trials Review Day.
According to BCG CEO, Ms Fiona Best, the annual Members Only BCG Trials Review Day signals the transition from the past season to the next, with many on farm decisions to be made.
“BCG is excited to offer growers the opportunity to hear the latest on relevant agronomic topics and learnings from our extensive 2019 trial program. It is also a valuable opportunity for them to catch up with a network of growers and industry representatives and share experiences from the previous season. And, of course, Trials Review Day attendees will be the first to collect a copy of our comprehensive trials program 2019 BCG Research Results Compendium” Ms Best said.
“We aim to conduct research that is interesting and relevant to our members, so presenting the outcomes of these trials is essential, and who better to present them than our staff who have worked on these trials all year,” Ms Best said.
“This provides an important opportunity for our members to meet the BCG staff and discuss the projects. It’s a tight turnaround to harvest and process the grain, analyse the results and have written reports ready in time to share. I am delighted that we will also have a mix of new and familiar faces presenting at Trials Review Day, covering a wide range of topics.”
The BCG trials program was conducted over approximately 9,500 plots for 130 trials at 22 sites across the Wimmera, Mallee and North Central, including the BCG main trial site near Birchip and an extensive program of work at Kalkee.
Of interest to members this year will be the farmer experience with the weed seed control efforts at harvest. A key discussion will focus on the experiences with iHSD® and Seed Terminator technology during the 2019 harvest.
“The revamped BCG website will also be launched as part of the 2020 BCG Trials Review Day. Featuring a new user-friendly layout and mobile device compatibility, users will be able to explore with ease the full suite of research, extension, innovation, Contract Services and community-based work we do.” Ms Best concluded.
