It is thirty years since a group of young enthusiastic local Birchip and district farmers organised a bus trip to South Australia to look at farms and related activities outside of their ‘patch’ – from which the concept of BCG was hatched.
On September 14 we will come together at the BCG Main Field Day as a result of the innovative thinking that occurred on the way home from that bus trip.
BCG has expanded its reach. Applied research extends across the Wimmera Mallee and North Central regions. In parallel BCG is a significant influencer of the national agriculture agenda, working collaboratively with an extensive network of farmers, industry, corporate partners and communities. All aspects of farming including agronomic, farming systems, climate, plant nutrition, crop diseases, weed and pest management and risk management are in focus.
The thirst for local, farmer-driven research is evidenced by committed attendance by farmers and industry at the field day for many years.
The BCG Main Field Day is for our farmers.
Every trial and every discussion occurring on the day has the intention of improving knowledge and understanding which will result in a practical takeaway that can be applied in some way to your farm or business.
At our main field day everyone is encouraged to ask questions and be curious about our work. Bring your questions and don’t be afraid to interrogate the science and debate the merits of the trials or the strategies being presented. It is through such questioning and discussions that we learn and potentially identify where to take the research next.
On behalf of the BCG staff team, we invite you to the BCG Main Field Day on Wednesday the 14th of September at Nullawil (on the corner of the Calder Highway and Burgins Road). I am looking forward to talking and catching up with you there.
