Aim: To independently assess the performance of existing and emerging canola varieties in the Wimmera.
Location: Nhill
Sowing date: 13 May 2016
Starting soil N (0-70cm): 101kg N/ha
Previous crop: 2015 – wheat
Fertiliser:

13 May   50kg/ha Granulock Sup Z + Impact

22 June  50kg/ha SOA + 80kg/ha urea

20 July   100kg/ha urea

GSR: 339mm
Nov 2015 – Oct 2016: 455mm

Note: This trial was harvested later than optimum therefore there was a significant amount of shattering in some varieties. Please treat these preliminary results with caution and look for the full report in the 2016 BCG Season Research Results compendium.

  • Varieties with the pod shatter resistance trait yielded high in this trial.
  • The highest yielding Clearfield and the highest yielding Roundup Ready® varieties were not significantly different to each other.
  • 44Y90 yielded very well given the high winds and subsequent shattering experienced at the Nhill site.
