Empowering Tomorrow’s Leaders

We are thrilled to share exciting news with you! BCG is involved in an Emerging Leadership Program, aimed at empowering adults aged 18 to 30-years who are passionate about creating thriving futures in the Victorian Mallee communities through collective leadership.

Delivered in partnership with the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation (ARLF) and Foundation for Rural Regional Renewal (FRRR) as part of the Helping Regional Communities Prepare for Drought Initiative, this five-day program seeks to cultivate self-awareness, community engagement, resilience, and effective leadership skills. Participants will gain valuable insights into fostering positive change in the context of drought and climate resilience while considering diverse perspectives and community well-being.

Are you between 18 and 30-years old and want to learn how to creatively respond to change? How to lead in your own life, community and broader world? Learn how to show up for yourself, others and your community?

Then, this program is made for you! Open to young adults from all walks of life, the Emerging Leadership Program equips participants with practical skills in leadership, collaboration, and communication.

With a track record of over 126 successful leadership programs delivered in the last 30 years, the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation has been dedicated to building thriving rural, regional, and remote communities. Working with people across the country, they have helped create a network of more than 2,800 leaders ready to face new challenges with a fresh perspective.

This initiative is part of the Australian Government’s Future Drought Fund, with a mission to offer tailored support to agriculture-dependent communities across rural, regional, and remote Australia. By joining forces with FRRR and the ARLF, we aim to make a significant impact on our communities’ preparedness and resilience to the effects of drought and a changing climate.

How do drought resilience and leadership relate to each other?

The frequency of and severity of drought and dry periods in the future is predicted to increase. In response, many farmers are taking proactive measures to prepare and adapt. However, it is equally important for the communities upon which these farmers rely to have opportunities to come together and collectively address the challenges posed by drought and changing climates. But coming together and working together can be difficult, particularly when everyone has different experiences and perspectives. This is where leadership comes in. By getting to know yourself and those around you better, and growing key leadership attributes such as self-awareness, communication and conflict resolution, we can foster collaboration and proactive behaviours and build communities that can weather the challenges to emerge stronger, together.

The Emerging Leadership Program will take place on 12-14 June 2024 & 15-17 July 2024 at Pine Plains Lodge, Big Desert. If you’re eager to become part of this transformative journey, we encourage you to visit https://apply-rural-leaders.smapply.io/prog/leadership_activity_application/ to apply.

Together, with the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation, BCG is committed to empowering our community and fostering positive, lasting changes. Let’s take the leap together and create a brighter future for the Victorian Mallee.
