BCG welcomed 20 agricultural extension specialists from Ghana to its Birchip office on Thursday, February 20.

Having heard about BCG, the group arranged the visit to learn more about how BCG conducts its research and how the findings are communicated and extended to the farming community.

BCG acting CEO Caroline Welsh, extension manager Ciara Cullen and research officer De-Anne Ferrier welcomed the international guests and delivered a presentation detailing the organisation’s history and the some of the work performed over the past 20 years.

The guests were extremely interested in Mallee farming systems and how BCG’s research is geared towards improving the productivity and prosperity of farmers and Wimmera and Mallee communities.

They enjoyed hearing about BCG’s research and extension activities and were impressed with the facilities.

They also commented on the number of females employed by BCG.

The focus of the visit was research extension and how to increase farmer involvement. The visitors asked lots of questions and also shared information about some of the opportunities and challenges they encounter in their home country.

Ms Welsh said the visit was a unique opportunity for information exchange between BCG staff and the international visitors.

She said such opportunities benefited both the visitors and hosts and agriculture as a whole.
