Looking for the chance to make a difference?

The Birchip Cropping Group (BCG) is looking to employ two energetic, experienced and skilled people to fill senior roles.

According to BCG CEO, Ms Fiona Best, the vacancies present potential candidates with a rare opportunity to work with a leading applied science and agricultural research organisation based in the heart of northern Victoria’s grain growing regions.

“Over almost 30 years of operating, BCG has earned an impressive reputation for independent, quality research. We now have this fantastic opportunity for two people to join the team and continue to build on that legacy” she said.

The BCG projects program is varied, stimulating and challenging, using science and first class extension strategies to improve the prosperity of broadacre farmers. We are looking for a Director of Applied Agronomic Research to lead our trials research program. BCG runs a very busy trials program, managing approximately 10,000 plots for 130 trials at 23 different locations across the Wimmera Mallee in 2019. The team has once again proven their capability in delivering reliable and meaningful research results and will be reporting their work to members on February 14 at the annual BCG Trials Review Day.

“A key ingredient of our success is the support of an active farmer base who guide and inform our research work in a variety of different ways. This level of involvement has been vital in ensuring the long term success BCG has experienced,” Ms Best said.

BCG is also looking for an experienced and skilled Extension and Communications Manager. Ms Best said the successful candidate will play a key role in extending the learnings from research to farmers and industry. “Extension can be the final link in the production chain that informs growers and results in a change to farming practice.” she said

“Great research that is not extended is wasted. Great research that is extended well can improve grower prosperity. Improved grower prosperity is a great outcome for our regional communities.”

BCG is offering the chance for someone with the drive to make a difference. We use a wide variety of communication mediums that compliment our extension work. And as a bonus, the successful candidates will experience first hand the benefits that come from working in a vibrant regional community!”

Ms Best encouraged potential candidates to consider the rewarding working environment that BCG offers.

“We have staff from all over Australia working at BCG. Our current staff have moved 600 kilometres, on average, to work here. And once they get here they like to stay!” she said.

Candidates with questions can call Fiona Best, BCG CEO, on 0427 922 786.

Applications close 5 pm Friday, 31 January 2020.
