The Birchip Cropping Group (BCG) is pleased to announce the appointment of Jade Gledhill as a graduate member of its Research Agronomy team.
What is your background?
I grew up in Newham in the Macedon Ranges. I love living in the country and I have enjoyed growing up around farms. I have a bit of a varied background! I studied agriculture at the University of Melbourne, where I majored in Plant and Soil Science. I was lucky enough to go to Dookie College where I also completed a Certificate III in Agriculture.
I have spent time working as a vineyard hand at Mt Macedon Winery and worked vintage with Borrodell Estate in Orange, NSW.
Since graduating from Melbourne Uni, I have completed a research project with Deakin University in Queenscliff, where I ran seeding trials for the emerging farming industry of a native seaweed called Golden Kelp. I also spent time as a research assistant in charge of the husbandry of Murray Cod!
What is your role at BCG and what will you be doing?
I am a research agronomist and I will be helping to run and manage a variety of our field trials and communicate our results to all of you!
What about the role interested you in applying?
I love working out in the field and meeting lots of new people. It was important to me to find a role that is really hands-on! I love seeing what everyone is doing on their farm and just watching the crops grow and develop throughout the season. Growing up in a small country town, I also really wanted a role that would allow me to continue to work in tight-knit regional communities.
What are your interests outside work?
I love the outdoors and am really into gardening, hiking and rock climbing. I am also a huge fan of bird watching, so don’t be surprised if you find me with my trusty bird guide! But when I’m not outside, you are most likely to find me reading or perhaps even sewing when I have the time.
What are you looking forward to whilst working at BCG?
I am really excited to become part of the wonderful Birchip community and contribute to meaningful agricultural research alongside such a lovely team!
