The BCG team are delighted to welcome Meg Conlan to the role of Research Assistant.
What is your background?
I grew up on a family farm near Sea Lake. I studied a Bachelor of Science at The University of Melbourne, majoring in Infection and Immunity, while also taking agricultural science subjects. I completed an honours year at the Peter Doherty Institute, researching coronavirus, and then worked as a laboratory technician in the School of Biosciences at The University of Melbourne. After five years in the city, I was ready to return to the country and decided to shift into agriculture, a field I have always been passionate about.
What is your role at BCG and what will you be doing?
I am in a research support role at BCG, where I assist the research team in various capacities. This involves conducting background research, performing data analysis, completing general research administration tasks, and occasionally helping out in the field. It’s rewarding to support the research team’s efforts in driving important research for our area.
What about the role interested you in applying?
Having grown up in the area, I had always heard great things about the work BCG does. I was excited about the opportunity to stay involved in research while living rurally and to contribute to my community in a meaningful way.
What are your interests outside work?
Outside of work, I enjoy gardening and tending to my extensive collection of indoor plants. I also love cooking, playing musical instruments, and spending time with my friends, family, and my dog, Pippa.
What are you looking forward to whilst working at BCG?
I’m looking forward to expanding my knowledge in agriculture and collaborating with a skilled team to help farmers in our region. It’s a great opportunity to engage in impactful work that benefits our community.
