Tim Rethus, a Wimmera farmer from near Horsham, was welcomed to the BCG Board at the BCG Annual General Meeting held on Monday 29 October.

Tim farms a 100 per cent dryland winter cropping enterprise with his brother Luke, father Geoff and long-time worker Glenn.

Simon Craig, Consultant/Director Farm 360, who joined the BCG Board in October 2017, was also confirmed as a co-opted Board Member.

BCG Chairman, Caroline Welsh, also took the opportunity to thank and acknowledge the contribution of outgoing board members, Brad Martin from Brim, Leo Delahunty from Murtoa and Sara Hely from the Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources.

“A strength of BCG is the contribution of skilled and dedicated farmers and others in our industry that are committed to working so grain growers get the maximum return for the dollars spent on research and extension”, Ms Welsh said.

In commenting on the 2017-18 period, Ms Welsh said the Board chose to focus on change to “set BCG up for the future”. This included a renewed strategic plan, building a new laboratory with support from Grains Research and Development Corporation Infrastructure grant and a range of new projects, many of which have an extension focus.

“Effectively communicating the results and outcomes of our projects is one of BCG’s strengths” she said.

At the conclusion of formalities, Leo Delahunty gave a presentation to board and staff members reflecting on his farming and leadership opportunities.
