The Role

The Birchip Cropping Group (BCG) are seeking an inquisitive and enthusiastic Communications & Engagement Officer. This role will involve a high level of attention to detail and would ideally be suited to an individual with interest in communicating agricultural research and regularly engaging with stakeholders.

This role will involve a mix of in-office, in-field and event-based work. Role responsibilities are diverse and may include:

  • Identification, presentation, distribution, development, and delivery of BCG communication outputs.
  • Oversight of various BCG communication platforms.
  • Content creation for the BCG eNews, podcast, technical bulletin, videos, and social media channels.
  • Engagement with various stakeholders and involvement in both internal and external events and initiatives.
  • Website and graphic design, and in-field and event photography and videography.

Qualifications and Attributes

  • Formal qualifications in communications, project management, event management, graphic design, agriculture, or a related discipline is desirable.
  • Proven communication/multimedia skills and experience in one or more areas (social media, graphic design, videography, website, and podcast production) is desirable.
  • Capacity to deliver communications for a range of events, with a focus on knowledge transfer and audience engagement.
  • Strong oral presentation and written communication skills.
  • Experience or a desire to work in the agriculture sector, developing a sound understanding of communicating agricultural information to the farming community.
  • Inquisitive and interested in grain growing, mixed farming systems and rural communities, or desire to learn.
  • Ability to maximise opportunities through collaboration when developing programs, while meeting key project deliverables.
  • Ability to develop a network with rural media delivery agents.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and an ability to work collaboratively with others within a team and broader organisation in a positive way.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and within a team environment.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office 365, Adobe Suite, WordPress and Canva highly desirable.
