Birchip Cropping Group (BCG) is a leader in grains research. Established in 1992 by a group of farmers in Victoria’s Mallee, determined to have ongoing access to locally relevant grains research, BCG is now widely recognised and respected for high quality, independent applied science-based research and extension.

About the role

BCG are seeking an Agricultural Innovation Coordinator to manage the delivery of BCG’s active role as a node of the Victorian Agricultural Innovation Hub. This is a federally funded program aimed to support regional communities through projects designed to improve regional resilience.

The Project Coordinator, Stakeholder Engagement will be the main point of contact for stakeholders to interact with BCG as the North-West Node of the Victorian Agricultural Innovation Hub. The Project Coordinator, Stakeholder Engagement will adopt a place-based approach to ensure that projects delivered through the node are relevant, provide value to the region, and address the priorities identified through ongoing engagement with stakeholders.

This will involve

  • engaging with relevant stakeholders and the community in their region to ensure that ideas, issues and opportunities are captured, recorded and assessed for prioritization at a node level
  • providing regular reports to the Hub directors, knowledge broker and project partners
  • managing activities delivered through the node and monitoring and reporting on activities.

The successful applicant will have excellent stakeholder engagement skills, verbal and written communication skills, project management skills, and research and analytical skills. The successful applicant will work effectively as a member of team and enjoy flexible working arrangements.

 

Applicants will require demonstrated experience in place-based initiatives, project management, and reporting at a senior level, including ability to work independently across multiple stakeholders.

Key Accountabilities

  1. Develop, lead, and deliver upon BCG’s Agriculture Innovation Hub activities for the North-West dryland broadacre farming region.
  2. Liaise with regional stakeholders and community to develop relationships and partnerships to identify priorities and projects that will strengthen agriculture, regional communities, landscapes and the natural environment through innovation and adoption.
  3. Co-design innovation projects with stakeholder groups that build confidence, ownership, leadership, resilience, and adoptability within the stakeholder group.
  4. Develop and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders, key external regional stakeholders, and the broader regional community. Facilitate regional working groups for the project and engage with community, researchers, industry, and other key stakeholders as required.
  5. Maintaining project documents and governance arrangements through good project management practices. Align the delivery to the needs identified by the regional stakeholders and the Hub Operation Plan approved by the Commonwealth Government.
  6. Lead delivery of the project in the region working within the Hub and alongside Hub partners to ensure consistency.
  7. Support the greater Agricultural Innovation Hub providing advice, expertise, problem solving and reporting as required, and inform management of current and emerging issues in a timely and constructive manner.
  8. Maintain a current working knowledge of the Victorian and Commonwealth Government policy, frameworks, and principles, and keep abreast of issues relating to drought, climate change and other issues impacting agriculture facing the region.

Key Selection Criteria

  1. Project management: Produces and monitors delivery of project documents and plans where objectives are clearly defined and action steps for achieving them are clearly specified; ensures project objectives are met by anticipating and maintaining potential emerging issues; ensures good governance and provides advice and recommendations to senior management to support decision-making.
  2. Place-based approach: A good understanding of the drivers and priorities of regional agricultural communities. Demonstrated experience bringing regional communities and/or stakeholders together to design new prod. ucts, services, and/or policies that are fit for purpose and meet overall project objectives.
  3. Stakeholder management: A proven ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with project stakeholders and facilitate discussion groups with strong interpersonal skills including active listening and ability to work with groups that may have conflicting views to achieve the broader project objectives and satisfy the needs of all stakeholders.
  4. Written communication: Well, developed and demonstrated ability to prepare written reports, presentations and plans using clear, concise, and grammatically correct language; ensuring content contains necessary information to achieve the purpose and has appropriate formatting.
  5. Self-management and teamwork: Self-motivated and able to work independently within the boundaries of team objectives. An ability to plan and prioritise work to ensure targets are realistic and outcomes are achieved. Regularly communicates with and supports project team members.

Desired Experience/Qualifications

A relevant tertiary degree or extensive experience would be well regarded.

  • This position has a requirement to work shift work or out of hours work will be required that will involve evening or weekend work including occasional overnight travel
