BCG is working with local Catchment Management Authorities (CMAs) to establish an assessable baseline of information and data on soil carbon and land management.
This data will be used to create a map of soil carbon levels across the two areas, with data being displayed via region and soil type.
This will provide local context for existing scientific knowledge, provide opportunities to further engagement with stakeholders on topics for further research, communication of on farm issues with relevant organisations (including farmers, funding bodies and government authorities), and identifying specific issues around awareness and/or adoption of relevant management practices.
As part of the project different communication products will be produced and workshops will be conducted to assess current practices, raise awareness, and initiate the process of practice change.
Growers who participate in the project will be invited to the workshops, giving them access to soils experts which will be able to give greater context and understanding to the information gathered from soil samples collected on their property.
Decision support tools will also be used to assist in extending and communicating information found in this project.
If you are a grower in the Wimmera or Mallee interested in being involved, contact the BCG office on 03 5492 2787.
